This one I spotted in the late afternoon resting on the Victoria Plum which is a few feet from our kitchen door. It is the first time I've seen one (or at least taken the time to notice one) and I have no hesitation in identifying this as an example of the Angle Shades (phlogophora meticulosa). After all the doubts about the Yellow Underwing this straightforward ID is a great relief. I'm also rather pleased with the top photograph. I had no idea the trunk of the plum tree offered such vivid possibilities as a back drop. So that's another lesson learned.

One even I couldn't get wrong
