It rained yesterday, fitfully in the morning and then with gusto through the afternoon. So junior sports day is off. The only viable activity would have been a re-enactment of this year's Maldon Mud Race.
And the sun is out currently. So I've been rearranging the tomato plants since I can no longer justify restaking them. I did tidy up the sunflowers (we're growing some red variety this year, but I carelessly threw away the packet before making a note of the name so I can't share it with you). I uttered soothing words to the pepper plants that are small but quite perfectly formed, and ignored the trays of wheat - these are the results of local sparrows being fussy little buggers: they pick the wheat seeds out of the seed mix I provide and deposit them in the surrounding pots and ground.
I gazed with tenderness upon the rosemary or lavender seedlings that I planted too late but which are showing some promise. Once again I can't tell you which - half the tray being seeded with one and half with t'other, but the little markers blew away or something; they're not there and I'm not sure which is which. The other half of the tray hasn't been a success, which ever way round it is.
And as I write the sky has darkened, so this long dry spell might be drawing to a close.
Last night's moth haul amounted to one single solitary Garden Carpet moth. Seen one, seen 'em all. Even I've managed a half decent (ie, representative) photograph of that one. I had a choice between photographs and a bottle of Fiddler's Elbow. The latter won.
Today's jungle adventure revealed a plentitude of spiders, one ladybird and a moth making a valiant attempt to disguise itself against one of the concrete fence posts.
